For the last five years Christiaan Kuitwaard (NL) has been painting weekly a 'White Box Painting', a still life of an object placed in a white box. Gradually this project has been growing bigger and better known due to a weekly updated blog , bust mostly due to an exhibition of 160 White Box Paintings in Museum Belvédère in Heerenveen in 2014. Kuitwaard is painting his still lives from direct observation, without forestudy or photo, and mostly without optical aids.
In 2016 the book on this special project has been published by 99 Uitgevers/Publishers with text by Han Steenbruggen, director of Museum Belvédère.
In 2015-2016 the work by Kuitwaard was on view as part of the Turner exhibition at the Museum de Fundatie in Zwolle. In the spring of 2017 he will hold a solo exhibition at the Museum Belvédère in Heerenveen.
Light Cube will be presenting the book and the selection of the ‘White Box Paintings’ from 23 October till November 27, 2016 at the upper floor of the gallery.
