Artist biography

Tom Liekens makes authentic work with a very own visual language and holds a very unique position within the art world.

In his monumental paintings and collages we often see nature in her artificial form as we know it from zoo’s and natural history museums. Or from the way in which landscapes and animals were presented throughout art history, in fairy tales or in movies.

The artist lives and works in Antwerp. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 1999. He participated in numerous exhibitions in Belgium and abroad, won the Camille Huysmans Prize for Painting (2006) and was nominated for the Art Price of the Province of Antwerp (2005). His work is included in numerous private and public collections, such as the M HKA, Belfius, National Bank Belgium, The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, Antwerp University, Antwerp Art Collection and Museum of Bommel-Van Dam Venlo.
